And with the “Bowl,” known for its infamous grinding hollow left break, things get even tastier as Aoki adds, “This year we’ll give out a bonus to the three mentioned divisions in terms of travel fund cash prizes as $2,500 will be divided up among the twelve finalists.” “BURGER KING® is proud to support the Hawaii Amateur Surfing Association and its efforts to further the sport of surfing within our communities,” said Denise Yamauchi, Managing Director for BURGER KING® Hawaii. “We congratulate every competitor who made it to the State Championships and look forward to continue serving them and their families.” The HASA State Championships has been the launching pad for many of Hawaii’s top professionals past and present including Triple Crown of Surfing director Randy Rarick, who won the prestigious Junior division back in the mid-1960’s. Former champion surfers such as Mike Ho, Derek Ho, Sunny Garcia got their boost as division winner of the HASA State Championships and current world tour professionals Andy and Bruce Irons, Fred Patacchia, Pancho Sullivan and Roy Powers have honed their skills from the prestigious event.
